These fun pages are intended to introduce career and technical education (CTE) pathways to all children at an early age through coloring, simple reading, and the use of QR Code readers on their phone or tablet. These pages introduce young children to professions that may be nontraditional for them based on gender, race, ethnicity, ability, or culture. By “normalizing” these career opportunities early in life, children may be more open to consider these careers in high school and college.

This activity book is provided to promote STEM and CTE courses and programs to help normalize CTE careers starting at an early age. These fun, interactive pages can promote careers to students who have historically been underrepresented due to their sex, gender, race, ethnicity, language, religion, or ability. Cultural beliefs and biases or simply a lack of awareness of the opportunities may have kept students from considering these careers. To “Normalize” career options from an early age refers to having had exposure to previous experiences that make future experiences feel relatable and comfortable.

This book is free to all as an example of how to introduce diverse careers to young children. Scan the QR Code on each page to have your smart phone give additional information to the child. The use of technology connects the knowledge about diverse careers into the traditional coloring book, making it more relevant and fun! This is just one example of how we can normalize careers for children from a young age so that entering these career pathways in high school or college is easier. Enjoy!
